Datum was a design workshop and festival with a focus on speculative architecture and emerging technology that ran from 2014 to 2018.
Datum was located in a forest in the UK, acting as a testbed for new ideas and prototypes, and formed of makers, tinkerers and thinkers from the fields of technology, design, film, architecture and fashion.
Each year, teams explored the woodland to follow new lines of enquiry.
Then, using a combination of traditional construction methods and new media technologies, like 3D scanning, real-time data and multi-projection, proposals weaved narratives into the rural context. The workshop culminated in a public music festival where revellers were invited to explore, inhabit and celebrate the completed works.
